Our Restaurant
For the love of food, Hemelhuijs opened its doors in October 2010 . The restaurant is a small oasis in the heart of Cape Town, South Africa and offers an ideal escape from hustle and bustle. Sit and watch the city go by while indulging in freshly made jewel-coloured juices, paradisal cocktails or custom blended coffee and order from the all-day menu.
Heavenly sounds in Hemelhuijs... escaping steam from the espresso machine. Cappuccino foam and cinnamon, heavenly smells, heavenly tastes, steam fresh ciabatta. Crumbs on the table, asparagus on the palate, ginger on the nose, black salt, and green dhania. Red, red wine, ginger, and ripe tomato.
Our menu
Jacques Erasmus and the Hemelhuijs team carefully source ingredients and interweave the flavours of childhood memories and that of the exotic. Our menu changes seasonally and also features touches brought from our world travels. Our offerings are presented in generous hand-crafted vessels and the service is simple, attentive but relaxed. Hemelhuijs also boasts its own homeware range and patrons can experience this unique range first hand in the restaurant, from the minimalist and clean-lined solid oak chairs and tables, to the bowls, plates, and vases that are part of our everyday use.
